Snowsheds on Donner Pass

Snowsheds protected the tracks from the average 34 feet of snow Donner Summit gets as well as avalanche. The "Then" picture is about 1870 showing wooden sheds. The "Now" shows fewer sheds today because there is better snow removal equipment. Sheds are now concrete.
