Charlie Chaplin filmed the Gold Rush partly on Donner Summit and enlisted the help of 600 extras from Sacramento to play the miners climbing the "Chilcoot Pass" (the Palisades at what is now Sugar Bowl). Here is a side view of the endeavor. See also
